چکیده

Microorganisms are ubiquitous in their presence on the planet but the communication network they use to adapt, grow and survive is still under the exploration among the biologist world. The prokaryotic and eukaryotic microorganisms grow as single species or in consortium under diverse ecosystems synthesize and release macromolecules known as extracellular polymeric substances (EPS). These 80% exopolysaccharides released in the ecosystem are having their origin from the microbial sources (Flemming and Wingender, 2001).They are present on the outer surface of bacterial cell. 3-D Numerical Simulations of Biofilm Dynamics with Quorum Sensing in a Flow Cell

We develop a multiphasic hydrodynamic theory for biofilms taking into account interactions among various bacterial phenotypes, extracellular polymeric substances (EPS), quorum sensing (QS) molecules, solvent, and possibly antibiotics. In the model, bacteria are classified into down-regulated QS, upregulated QS, and non QS cells based on their QS ability. We then develop a second-order numerical...

Biological functions of exopolysaccharides from probiotic bacteria

Probiotic bacteria have the ability to produce exocellular polymers called exopolysaccharides (EPS). It has been suggested that the health benefit of probiotic bacteria can be attributed to the production of EPS. However, the composition, structure and biological functions of EPS may vary depending on the type of microorganism and environmental conditions. Some data suggest that EPS production ...

3-D Numerical Simulations of Biofilm Dynamics with Quorum Sensing in a Flow Cell IMI PREPRINT SERIES

Biofilms are microorganisms, where bacteria are embedded in networks formed by bacteria-produced expopolysacharrides, also known as extracellular polymeric substances (EPS). Bacteria in biofilms communicate and cooperate with each other by sensing the density of signalling molecules that bacteria excrete. This phenomenon is known as quorum sensing (QS). In this paper, we develop a hydrodynamic ...

Onion Peel Ethylacetate Fraction and Its Derived Constituent Quercetin 4′-O-β-D Glucopyranoside Attenuates Quorum Sensing Regulated Virulence and Biofilm Formation

The resistance and pathogenesis of bacteria could be related to their ability to sense and respond to population density, termed quorum sensing (QS). Inhibition of the QS system is considered as a novel strategy for the development of antipathogenic agents, especially for combating drug-resistant bacterial infections. In the present study, the anti-QS activity of Onion peel ethylacetate fractio...
